On October 3, we’re traveling back to medieval Helsingborg! Around the medieval church, the town square will be filled with a market and activities such as pony rides, treasure hunts, and guided tours. Welcome to a day where history comes to life right in the heart of the city!

Pony riding

In the Middle Ages, people didn’t travel by car, so they had to travel on horseback. Take a short horseback ride around the square, starting at Viva Restaurant.
Treasure hunt

Treasures of medieval gold coins are hidden around the square. Can you find them?
You will receive a map on site. Good luck!

Dyeing yarn and textiles over an open flame

Learn how to dye yarn with plants the medieval way. You can also buy plant-dyed wool skeins and yarn, as well as do-it-yourself kits.

Historical tour outside the church

What history actually lies beneath our feet and right before our eyes? Discover visible and invisible traces of the 12th- and 15th-century Church of Our Lady (S:ta Maria kyrka) during a guided tour around the church.

S:ta Maria kyrka is a medieval church right in the heart of the city that has weathered war, fire, the Reformation, and modernism. Join us for a guided tour inside the church and learn about the role of churches in medieval Helsingborg. What traces remain today, and what has happened over the course of several hundred years of Helsingborg’s Christian history? The tour begins outside the church entrance.

Join us on a historical walk through the country castle and the remains of Helsingborg’s medieval castle! Start below the Terrace Stairs.
Maria torg
Maria torg is located in Gamla stan, in the heart of Helsingborgs stad. It is a place where the echoes of history meet local everyday life. Here, charming cobblestone streets and cozy restaurants surround St. Maria Church, one of Helsingborgs stad’s oldest buildings. The square is a peaceful and welcoming gathering place, where residents and visitors alike enjoy sitting down for a while, meeting over a cup of coffee, or taking part in events such as Medieval Day and Marias Marknad. The friendly atmosphere is characterized by a strong sense of local community—a vibrant square that reflects Helsingborg’s history in the present day.
Helsingborg C is a stone’s throw from Maria torg. You can get there by bus, train and ferry. By car, you can park at Stortorget, Södra Strandgatan or Prästgatan. On Helsingborgs stad’s parking map you will find more information and more parking spaces.
